Consumer Drug Disposal

An estimated 250 million pounds of unused medications are improperly disposed of each year.

Dispose of your medications properly to protect:
  • Our families:
Returning unwanted medications makes our homes safer.
  • Our community:
Proper and safe disposal prevents theft and other misuse of medications.
  • Our environment:
Flushing or throwing away medications puts our waterways and aquatic life at risk.

To help alleviate these concerns, Elm Drugs is now offering a new prescription drug take-back program to provide an easily accessible and convenient option for disposing unused medication. At the same time, we will help educate you about your medications and your health.

Pharmacists are the health care professional seen last by patients before medications are used and we are there for patients when medications go unused or expire.

Unused or expired medications pose risks to our families, communities, and the environment. We welcome all in the community to come and talk to our pharmacists about their prescription drugs and how to store, use and dispose of them properly.

And by offering you this disposal program, we are encouraging you to talk to us about your medication needs all year long.

Patients of any pharmacy are invited to safely dispose of unused and expired medications at Elm Drugs, free of charge by bringing in these drugs in their original containers. We can take back non-controlled and over-the-counter medications, but not controlled substances.
